Umist Forum
Hi, I was a Bogle Stroll hack in the mid 1980s. This OldHacks thingy seems like a great idea, but appears to be pretty quiet right now... (last posting about 3 yrs ago!).
Coincidentally a few weeks ago I started an unofficial Umist alumni forum. It too is pretty quiet - but if you read this why not drop in and say hi? It is at:

 The end of an era
It's with the utmost solemnity that I have to break some news to the UMIST old hack community.
Following the merger of UMIST and Manchester University unions, it has been decided that there will be no need for two general managers. This, alas, means that our good friend Chris Hammond has been made redundant with only a chunky redundancy check for consolation.
For those of you who didn't get the chance to know him, Chris was the kind of guy who'd do anything for anyone (or so Nick told me). I'm sure everyone who knew him will agree that the union won't be the same without him and we at OldHacks hope he gets all he deserves.
If anyone wants to share their own memories of him, or just leave a goodwill message, they can do so by clicking reply.

PHOTOS
may i suggest a competition for most bizarre photo? although Ian P has a head start, i reckon others may have a few tricks up their sleeves!

Oh dear!
I think a question that would have to be asked is do we really want to cope with the consequences of a bizzare photo competition? It could have nasty side affects & lead to sleepless nights

The face of concern?
You seem quite concerned about this possibility. I'm thinking you have something to hide.
For the record I think a bizzarre photo comp could be quite interesting. Even if we don't run it as a competition, feel free to post your photos to the board (as long as they're not too big).
For now you'll need to have them hosted somewhere (until Timmy gets the upload sorted here) and just put in the following in the message box:
